Nintendo Experimenting With Apps For Mobile
In the past we have heard how Nintendo has reiterated their stance on not creating games for the mobile market, although we’re not sure why that is the case especially given how more of us own mobile devices than Nintendo-based handheld consoles. However given that the Wii U isn’t exactly a stellar success, unlike the Wii, perhaps Nintendo could be having a change of heart. According to a report by King 5, word has it that Nintendo could be looking to “experiment” with apps, and the good/bad news is that they will be starting with iOS first.

Speaking to King 5, Nintendo of America’s President and COO, Reggie Fils-Aime,We’re also doing a lot of experimentation of what I would call the little experiences you can have on your smartphone and tablet that will drive you back to your Nintendo hardware. It’s largely going to be much more marketing activity-oriented, but we’ve done little things where there’s some element of gameplay – a movement, a shaking, something like that”.

Based on this, it sounds as though what Nintendo could be offering is a taste as opposed to a full-fledged gaming experience which they’re hoping will make gamers want to purchase Nintendo hardware. Granted this isn’t exactly what we want to hear, but we suppose it has to start somewhere, right? No telling when these little tie-ins will begin rolling out, but we can’t wait to see what form it could take. (ubergizmo)
