Alipay processed $148 billion through mobile devices in 2013.
China-based Alipay has said that it shot past PayPal to become the biggest mobile payment provider in the world.
The $148 billion processed through mobile devices last year has placed the company around three times the transaction volume of long time long-time e-commerce leader, PayPal.
Alibaba – who announced a mobile gaming platform last month – said that its payment solution, Alipay got a boost from this years seven-day Chinese New Year when many banks were closed, driving people to use online alternatives.
Tencent also benefitted from the public holiday as more than 70,000 took advantage of the digital version of the Hongbao tradition.
More than 100 million users have made over 2.78 billion transactions through Alipay Wallet to day. (mobile-ent)
