At MWC 2014 this week, Sony unveiled their latest flagship handset, the Xperia Z2. One of the highlights of the Xperia Z2 would be its camera in which Sony has packed a 20.7MP Exmor RS sensor with Sony’s G-lens. Together with Steady Shot, 4K video recording, and a low-light mode, it certainly sounds the Xperia Z2’s camera packs quite a punch.
Now the question is with all that new fangled technology under the hood, how does it compare to some of the best shooters out there as far as smartphones are concerned? With that being said, Vietnamese website, Tinhte.vn has uploaded a YouTube video in which the low-light photography of the Xperia Z2, the iPhone 5s, and the Nokia Lumia 1520 are all compared against one another.
The way the photos were taken was by using a box provided by Sony where the lens of the camera would be pointed at a small cutout and attempt to snap a photo of the object inside. So who won the shootout? Unsurprisingly it was the Xperia Z2 where the resulting photo looked incredibly bright, almost as if it were snapped in daylight.
The software of the Xperia Z2’s camera is also pretty intuitive as it managed to detect that it was in a low-light situation. However we should noted that the iPhone 5s and the Lumia 1520 aren’t exactly know for their low-light capabilities. In fact a more fair test would be to pit it against the likes of the LG G2 or the Lumia 920, both of which have proven to be pretty good for low-light photography.
Of course we will be conducting our own tests in the future, but for now it looks like the Xperia Z2 is a worthy consideration if a good smartphone camera was one of your priorities. (ubergizmo)
